Sculptural works
My fascination with sculpture started when i saw the works of Florante "Boy" Caedo, specifically the
"crucified christ" he created for the main altar of Recoletos de Antipolo chapel. Such fascination brought
me an interest to pursue such discipline, (sometime in 1995) i asked the help of a UP fine arts student
named Lynn Yusi (now a New York based artist/researcher, and the owner of Gallery Y), she introduced
me to her classmate, Waggy Tawagon. Waggy taught me the basics - clay molding and the famous
"Venus."
In the summer of 1996, i apprenticed in the studio/workshop of Florante "Boy" Caedo. I was under his
tutelage for two months. I only got to finish one sculptural work with him - the foot of Venus. Which became
my serious career mark in sculpture.
Up to this day, i am working on mostly religious sculptures (christ, saints, icons, etc.). After the death of
Florante "Boy" Caedo, his workmen offered their services and expertise in my humble studio.
In 2004, i facilitated the creation of Tulong sa Kabuhayan Foundation + Tatak Rekoleto, a foundation that
sells and creates religious statuettes and sculptures as means of livelihood, the workforce and
beneficiaries are families from the squatter areas of Project 6, Quezon City - they learn and earn through
sculpture.
